Live Emergency Department Waiting Times

Live average waiting times for patients arriving at Northern Ireland emergency departments (EDs) are displayed on a NIDirect webpage. The figures update at approximately hourly intervals.

This dataset captures and stores that information as a spreadsheet of recent average waiting times.

Accident & Emergency (ED Types 1&2) and Minor Injuries Units (ED Type 3) are included. Type 1 A&Es operate on a 24-hour basis, Type 2 A&Es and MIUs may have periods during which they are closed, for which no waiting time information will be available.

Note that average waiting times are not the same as the measurements used to monitor performance against targets. For those statistics, see here.

Waiting times at emergency departments can change significantly and quickly without warning, and therefore the times given here are not a guarantee of actual waiting times that each patient will experience. Patients are seen in order of priority based on their medical condition.
