Fast Food Outlets

FSA food hygiene data records information on all food-serving units that receive a hygiene rating under the Food Hygiene Rating System (FHRS).

Based on the fields available in the FHRS data we've used the following method to create a dataset of fast-food outlets across Northern Ireland:

• Include any unit marked with the business type 'takeaway/sandwich'
• Include all McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken/KFC, Subways, Dominos and Burger King by name*
• Include any restaurant/cafe/canteen with "burger", "chip", "kebab"

* These popular fast-food chains are normally marked as business type 'restaurant/cafe/canteen' rather than as a takeaway (as they provide sit-in facilities), and so are included by name.

Data was extracted on 26 October 2016. The dataset therefore provides a snapshot of all of the units registered on FHRS on this date, and some of the information may since have changed.

Also included is an analysis of fast-food outlets by Local Government District, including the density of outlets (number per 100,000 residents), and health data such as disease prevalence, using data from NISRA Neighbourhood Statistics and the Department of Health Sub-Regional Health Inequalities Report.
